The picture is of more favorable times.

This picture was made in Florida in 1926.  It is of my grandfather, Frank and my dad, Harold Gifford.  Dad use to laugh and tell me of some of the stories of his youth and his dad.  After moving to Florida and establishing a place to live, my grandfather planted a small garden to help with the food.  One night after everything was coming up and he was so proud of it, a cow got into it and demolished it.   It was related that grandfather was a small man but had a  spontaneous temper.  Upon arising and observing his garden he bellered out to dad to "TAKE CARE OF THAT COW".   The cow was not theirs!  Dad being an obedient 16 year old went out in the field unknowingly to his dad with a shotgun.  Chasing the cow, it straddled a bobwire fence and dad shot it dead!  He was proud of his-self and came and told his father of his good deed!  Grandfather yelled "I SAID TAKE CARE OF HER, NOT KILL HER!"  They immediately went and dug a hole and buried her, because he knew they were in trouble.  A couple of days later the owner came and inquired  if they had seen a stray cow.   All he got from them was, no sure haven't.  From that day  on dad was extremely
careful about carrying out spontaneous orders!
